BLACK.SPACE.RACE
BLACK. SPACE. RACE. has become a narrative concert which is a performance on a concert stage with dialogues and theatrical flow. A super Sonic Afrobeat performance that has depth and deeply felt impact for the audience as it was performed to at least 300 people in 4 days.
BLACK. SPACE. RACE. uses the remarkable story of Edward Mukuka Nkoloso and his Zambian Space Programme of the 1960s to show how one-dimensional and colonialist the Western world’s view of Africa is. Then as now. In a vibrant Afrobeat performance with song, storytelling, dance and physical theatre, and incorporating political contexts, the Bernese group Manaka Empowerment Prod. around Ntando Cele and Raphael Urweider celebrates the image of a future-hungry, humorous and self-confident Africa. The future is black!
